Andy Hall is a London-based freelance reportage and documentary photographer with more than 35 years of experience. He began his career in the late 1980s, initially working with financial trade magazines before joining The Observer and The Guardian, where he continues to contribute regularly. His work soon expanded to international editorial reportage and portraiture, covering socio-political issues and human stories around the world.

Alongside editorial assignments, Hall has collaborated extensively with NGOs including Oxfam and UNHCR, documenting humanitarian projects and ambassador campaigns. His work on the hunger crisis in the Sahel was exhibited at the Visa Pour L’Image photojournalism festival in Perpignan in 2012. In addition, his photography has featured in book projects such as UK at Home (Duncan Baird, 2008) and has been widely exhibited, most recently in the solo show Scenes from the Notting Hill Carnival at the Tabernacle Centre in 2024.

Hall is also passionate about street photography, with long-term projects that have earned him recognition and awards, including the Best Author prize at Trieste Photo Days 2025, judged by Magnum photographer Harry Gruyaert. His ongoing project on the City of London’s Square Mile was published as the book The Same For Everyone (Snap Collective). In recent years, his practice has expanded to commercial and studio portrait commissions for clients such as Reed, sports marketing companies, and Transport for London.
