Antonino Clemenza (born 1969) is a Franciscan religious and philosopher who teaches as professore incaricato di Filosofia dell’economia (Contract Professor of Philosophy of Economy) at the Pontifical University Antonianum in Rome. He earned his Licentiate in Philosophy at the same university in 2008, following a Laurea in Philosophy with a thesis on the relationship between the Church’s social doctrine and economic categories. His academic path reflects a commitment to bridging philosophy, theology, and the social sciences within a Franciscan framework.
His research focuses on ethics, social justice, and ecology, with particular attention to situations of economic and housing hardship. Clemenza has worked in the field as a practitioner in contexts of social and economic marginalization, which informs his academic reflection. His publications include Crisi dell’umano oggi? Tra immanenza e trascendenza (Mimesis, 2021), co-authored with Andrea Bizzozero and Carlos Alberto Gutiérrez Velasco, and In dialogo. Letture filosofiche della “Fratelli tutti” di papa Francesco (Mimesis, 2024), exploring Pope Francis’s social encyclical from a philosophical perspective.
Beyond his written work, Clemenza actively coordinates and contributes to research laboratories and seminars, particularly in the field of integral ecology, a specialization within Antonianum’s philosophy program. His lectures and studies engage with ecological thought, Franciscan spirituality, and ethical relativism, often drawing connections between deep ecology, the Canticle of the Creatures, and the human search for beauty and inclusion. His teaching and scholarship continue to emphasize a holistic, relational vision of philosophy rooted in both transcendence and lived social experience.
