Alena Ivochkina worked for many years in economics before discovering photography in 2019 during her hiking trips in the mountains. From that moment the path is swift and determined: in 2020 she completes a course in artistic and professional photography, in 2023 she approaches fine art and begins working with self-portraiture. Based in Chelyabinsk, Russia, her work has been recognised in international competitions and exhibited in numerous group and solo shows.
Her practice filters reality through the lens of imagination: everyday objects and ordinary scenes become something unexpected, sophisticated, not quite what they appear to be. Elements of surrealism and minimalism, colour and digital manipulation are the tools she uses to tell surprising visual stories.
With Colorful Mood, a project published in the volume Mythography V by Exhibit Around, she explores the relationship between clothing, identity and communication. In every image the face is hidden: it is the clothes that speak, conveying the mood she chooses to show the world while keeping what she feels inside to herself.
