A founding member of the Fotocamera con Vista Association in Trieste, Barbara Tognon primarily works through long-term photographic projects rather than individual images. In each body of work, she seeks a balance between aesthetic expression and a physical-mathematical sense of order.
PROJECT
With Salvezza, the project she submitted to the 2025 The Canticle of the Creatures open call, Barbara Tognon begins with a deeply personal experience and transforms it into a reflection on memory, loss, and continuity.
The passing of several family members in recent years becomes the starting point for an exploration of origins: what remains after the end and what we leave behind.
The project intertwines two elements: the X-rays of her parents and the landscapes of the Grado Lagoon, the place from which her family originates.
Bones and environment, genome and culture merge into a visual structure inspired by the DNA double helix, to be read from the bottom upward, from the roots to the sky.
In the background stands the silhouette of the Sanctuary of Madonna di Barbana, a symbol of faith and hope, marking the earthly journey toward eternal salvation.
In this work, life and death are not presented as opposites, but as interconnected realities, illuminated by hope.
