Cristina Cosmano

Cristina Cosmano is a photographer whose project La soglia won the 2026 Ritratti femminili a confronto open call, organised by Exhibit Around in collaboration with the Photography Archive of the Civic Museums of History and Art of Trieste.

Made across different countries, religions and social settings, the series explores a distinctive approach to portraiture: photographing women whose faces are entirely or partly concealed. Posture, hands, clothing and the relationship with surrounding space become ways of expressing identity. The photographs ask how social rules and cultural traditions influence women’s visibility, and how a person’s presence can remain clear even when the face is withheld.

Her work has also appeared in the 2022 Circuito OFF of the Festival della Fotografia Etica in Lodi, where she presented But Free.

At Trieste Photo Days 2026, La soglia is exhibited at the Sartorio Museum in a dialogue with historical photographs selected by curator Claudia Colecchia, opening a conversation about identity, recognition and the representation of women across different periods of photographic history.
