Dario De Dominicis is a documentary photographer with an intense and rigorous visual language, recognized for his ability to go beyond the surface of things, restoring photography to its most authentic role: a tool for social and human investigation.
He was a special guest of Il Cantico delle Creature, the international photographic project promoted by Trieste Photo Days in collaboration with the Order of Friars Minor and the Comune di Assisi, on the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the famous canticle by Saint Francis of Assisi.
The project invited photographers from all over the world to reinterpret, through images, the values of harmony, fraternity, and responsibility toward creation that inspire the oldest text in Italian literature.
PROJECT
In this interview, Dario De Dominicis talks about his acclaimed long-term reportage project, “The Franciscan Soul of Brazil.” Between 2013 and 2017, he followed and documented a massive pilgrimage dedicated to the Saint, held in Canindé, in Northeastern Brazil, exploring the mysticism and deep religious fervor of one of the poorest regions of the country.
The project was exhibited in Rome, Rio de Janeiro, and eventually arrived in Assisi itself, in an ideal return home.
