The workshop with Manca Juvan emphasizes a combination of theory, practical shooting, and personalized feedback. Participants will get to learn about different styles in street photography that will encourage them maybe to try something that they haven't before.
Workshop Topic: Street Photography
In this two-day intensive workshop, participants will explore the field of street photography. To better understand the concept, Manca Juvan will start the introductory session by considering what street photography isn't, and will review the work of some of the best masters in this field.
Afterwards, Manca Juvan will continue with fieldwork, guided by the famous photographer Elliott Erwitt's thought: "Photography is the art of observation. It's about finding something interesting in an ordinary place... I've found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them."
On the second day, Manca Juvan will review the material captured by participants, select the best photos, and analyze them in a presentation.
In the workshop, participants will receive tips to help create better, more narrative, and visually attractive street photographs.

Day 1 - Saturday 26th October
- 10:00 - 11:30 - Theory session - Museo Orientale
- 12:15 - 13:00 - Presentation of Manca Juvan’s project "Istanbul Faces of Freedom" with Dr. Colecchia - Sala Xenia
A visit to the exhibition will follow - 14:00 - 15:00 - Theory session - Museo Orientale
Free field photography will follow.
Day 2 - Sunday 27th October
- 10:00 - 13:00 - Review session with Manca Juvan. Each participant will present a selection of approximately 20-30 photos - Museo Orientale
Participation and Equipment
Participation is reserved for Exhibit Around APS members (registration by filling out the workshop registration form).
The workshop is open to everyone. However, participation is suggested to those who have a medium knowledge of photography (no beginners).
What do you need for participation?
- A photographic self-portrait to share with the group.
- Equipment: You will need your own camera (digital photography). You can also bring your laptop (for reviewing, editing, and selecting photos).

Teacher: Manca Juvan
Manca Juvan (1981) has a BA in Photography and more than two decades of working experience throughout the field and around the world. She's established herself in the field of journalism and documentary photography, in recent years developing a particular interest and passion for books and motion pictures as forms.
She's collaborated with Slovenian and foreign media, including The Times, The Guardian, and The New York Times.
Her internationally acclaimed monographs “Afghanistan: (Un)ordinary Lives” and “Guardians of the Spoon” have been published by Sanje and ZRC SAZU. She's the recipient of numerous awards, nominations, and scholarships, including the Magnum Foundation’s in 2011. She’s had many solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad, including at the Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana, as well as other gallery venues and festivals in New York, Brussels, Luxembourg, Paris, and elsewhere.
