» Rules
- Submissions are open from Friday , September 12 to Sunday, October 19, 2025, and are open to both professional and amateur photographers.
- Participants must register and upload their projects through the user area my.dotlogic.net.
- An entry fee of €30 per project is required.
- The contest is open to photographers worldwide.
- The theme of the submitted projects is free, chosen by the author.
- Projects must include a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 30 images.
- Each photographer may submit as many projects as they wish.
- Both color and black & white photos are accepted.
- Projects and portfolios may be accompanied by a short description/presentation. We reserve the right to edit, modify, and/or withhold content considered offensive and/or inconsistent with the portfolio.
- Photos must not contain signatures, watermarks, or frames.
- To ensure the correct order of photos, add sequence numbers to the file names (e.g., “filename03.jpg”, “08filename.jpg”, etc.).
- The winning project will be announced on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Sala Xenia, during Trieste Photo Days.
- Photographers retain the moral and intellectual property rights to their submitted works. By participating, each author grants dotART association the non-exclusive right to use winning/selected images to promote the association’s non-profit activities, with prior notification to the author (whose name will always be credited with the work).

- Format: jpg
- Color mode: RGB
- Individual files: must be under 9 MB each
- Minimum size (short side): 2000 px / Maximum size (long side): 6000 px
- File names: must not contain special characters (accents, apostrophes, symbols, etc.)
Matt Black
Matt Black comes from California’s Central Valley, a rural and agricultural region in the heart of the state. Between 2014 and 2020, he traveled over 100,000 miles across 46 states for his project American Geography, published by Thames & Hudson in 2021 and accompanied by a traveling exhibition inaugurated at Deichtorhallen Hamburg. Other works include The Dry Land, on the impact of drought on California’s farming communities, and The Monster in the Mountains, about the disappearance of 43 students in the southern Mexican state of Guerrero. Both projects, accompanied by short films, were published in The New Yorker.
His work has regularly appeared in U.S. and international media, including TIME Magazine, The New Yorker, Le Monde, and Internazionale. He has received the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Prize three times, the W. Eugene Smith Memorial Award, and fellowships from the Emerson Collective and the National Geographic Society.
Additional honors include recognition from the National Press Photographers Association, the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, the California Arts Council, and World Press Photo. He was nominated to join Magnum Photos in 2015 and became a full member in 2019.
