Paul Parillaud: personal exhibit presentation “Mersino”
Riva Tre Novembre / Angolo Via Mazzini - Trieste
Saturday 29 October 2022
Mersino is located at the eastern end of Friuli, in the Natisone Valleys, close to the border with Slovenia. These valleys are located at the crossroads between two worlds: the Latin and
the Slavic one.
Mersino is the town of “Pust” (carnival in Slovenian) where once a year, as per tradition, the carnival masks run through the streets of the town all day, stopping from house to house, always accompanied by accordion players.
However, the diversity of these people compared to the majority of the Italian population makes the Natisone Valleys a problematic territory, left to itself for too long in a persistent position of economic-cultural marginality.
Paul Parillaud, author of “Mersino“, has always been in contact with photography:
“I photograph to understand the world, or rather, to understand how I see the world. In reality, I photograph to understand myself. Photography allows me to glimpse what is the meaning of life, or at least to give meaning to life. […] Black and white photographer to capture the essence of life. I love the contrasts of man, always suspended between life and death, between spiritual aspirations and earthly needs, between joy and a sense of loneliness “.
