REVIEWERS

Christopher Morris

Christopher Morris – English

One of the most celebrated photojournalists of the past forty years. A founding member of VII Photo Agency, he worked for TIME Magazine from 1990 to 2020, covering almost 30 international conflicts and following the presidencies of George W. Bush and Barack Obama as part of the White House press pool.

His photographs have captured the essence of power, politics and cultural change in our time: the fall of the Berlin Wall, the wars in Yugoslavia, Colombia, Afghanistan, Chechnya, Somalia, Yemen and Panama, the first Gulf War, the American invasion of Iraq and the Arab Spring in Libya.

Morris has received many major awards, among them the Robert Capa Gold Medal, the Olivier Rebbot Award, the International Center of Photography's Infinity Award for Photojournalism and several World Press Photo prizes. He has published two books with Steidl: My America in 2006 and Americans in 2012. Alongside TIME Magazine, he has worked with a great many international titles around the world.

In 2009, when TIME Magazine gave up its White House coverage, Morris was approached by the Italian fashion magazine AMICA for a shoot in New York, after its editor had been struck by his monograph My America. This began a four-year collaboration in which Morris brought his unmistakable reportage approach to Milan and Paris, where he remained until 2017, photographing fashion, political leaders and celebrities for European clients.

In 2022 he began a long-term project on environmental change in Florida, his home state.

In recent years he has also been reorganising his archives, which gather forty years of images into what he likes to call a "Living Archive".

Umberto Verdoliva_by Marco Arienti

Umberto Verdoliva – Italian

Umberto Verdoliva is an Italian photographer whose work is rooted in the tradition of humanist photography. He is also a portfolio reviewer and was named FIAF Author of the Year in Caorle in 2023. He collaborates with FOTO IT magazine, contributing reviews of photographers and photographic projects.

"I immediately fell in love with humanist photography. Over time, this awareness has led me to explore my “everyday life” in depth, in a constant search for poetry and beauty as essential qualities to be highlighted in human beings.
Photography is a parallel dimension to my professional and personal life, a tool I use to enter a world of my own, where I can tell stories, dream, recharge, feel good about myself and connect with others. Through images, I tell the story of everything I experience day after day: from the streets around my home to my workplace, from my family to the places where I live. I explore my own experience with an attentive eye and, I hope, with sensitivity, leaving traces and memories that may also belong to others.

In recent years, I have created numerous photographic projects which, although distinct from one another, represent a single, ongoing project: my story as a man, my memories, and my thoughts on life.

Alongside photography, I enjoy sharing my passion by leading workshops, exhibitions, portfolio reviews and presentations, as well as writing articles and in-depth pieces on photography.
Many of my photographs and photographic projects have been published in major Italian and international photography magazines."
