Filippo Ferraro (b. 1990) is an Italian documentary photographer based in Trieste. After earning a law degree, he turned to photography, developing long-term projects on the changing relationship between people and the environment in the context of the climate crisis.
His work pays particular attention to how environmental change reshapes collective cultural identity. Combining sustained observation with documentary research, he examines the ways communities inhabit, understand and respond to transforming landscapes.
His projects have appeared in international publications and exhibitions across Europe, the Americas, Asia and Africa. His distinctions include the 2023 Earth Photo Forestry Ecosystem Award, nominations for the Leica Oskar Barnack Award and Prix Pictet, and the Trieste Photo Days 2020 Portfolio Review award. In 2026, he was a winner at Rovinj Photo Days and the overall open-call winner at the Festival de Fotografia de São Paulo.
At Trieste Photo Days 2026, his project HEATALY forms part of Exhibit Around’s La Forma del Calore. The exhibition brings photography into dialogue with scientific visualisations of heatwaves in Friuli Venezia Giulia, making the local effects of climate change more accessible to the public.
