These are the words of Nino Migliori, legendary Italian photographer and special guest at Trieste Photo Days 2022: “Do you know to whom I would give the most important prize to? To Trieste and to these people who have dedicated hundreds of hours to create this world event which for me is the most important I have found in my career. In my 80-year career, I have never seen such an important event on photography in any other Italian city.”
So here is Trieste Audace, the celebration that dotART and Exhibit Around wanted to give to their city through photography. A tribute to the city where the great adventure of the Trieste Photo Days festival was born, now at its tenth edition, capable of involving important artists such as Martin Parr, Susan Meiselas, Nino Migliori, Tony Gentile, Bruce Gilden and offering the public and to citizenship, unpublished photographic exhibitions, meetings with authors and opportunities for exchange and growth.
Through the perception and sensitivity of the 69 selected authors and 170 images, Trieste Audace tells the soul of the city of the Bora wind, the Gulf and the historic cafés. Original and unusual looks at the daily life in the city, at the architecture and to the territory, becoming visual testimonies , identity and culture of Trieste, helping to enhance its richness and diversity.
After framing the Salone delle Sportellerie of the Central Post’s Palace from 8 to 29 July, the Trieste Audace exhibition will pervade the spaces of the Historical Market of Trieste.
Accompanying the urban images of Trieste will be the best shots taken from the 14th Edition of URBAN Photo Awards.
On display at the Historical Market there will be more than 450 images that tell the story of the everyday life of the world and its infinite facets, visual moments that often reveal more than what they show: unpublished aspects of society, stories of real life, hidden corners of urban spaces, contrasts and contradictions of the time, celebrations of beauty or chronicles of urban decay.
Shots sometimes full of pathos, sometimes apparently banal but full of food for thought, magic of light and colour, unexpectedly dreamlike situations almost designed to be presented to the viewer, images similar to glimpses into parallel worlds that reveal themselves and are captured in that ‘unique and unrepeatable shot.
With the participation of over 3000 photographers with more than 12,000 submitted photos, more than 400 Projects and Portfolios, and 120 photo books nominated in 2023 alone, URBAN Photo Awards over the years has involved jurors and guests at the Trieste Photo Days. Among the URBAN 2023 jurors and special guests at the Trieste Photo Days at the end of October figure Alec Soth (in live streaming), Jérôme Sessini (Magnum Agency), Kadir van Lohuizen (NOOR Images) and Laura Zalenga.
