Marylise Vigneau is a documentary photographer based between Austria and Pakistan. Raised in Paris, she studied comparative literature at the Sorbonne before developing photography as her principal means of exploring people, places and their stories.
Her long-term projects investigate memory, place and the effects of physical and mental borders. She is drawn to moments of uncertainty and possibility in regions shaped by history and social or political tension, paying close attention to the ways people negotiate constraints and find individual freedom.
Her clients include The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, Politico Europe and Libération. Her honours include the Gomma Grant, recognition from the Sony World Photography Awards and Istanbul Photo Awards, and the Wolf Suschitzky Photography Prize. Her photobook Red Utopias was published in 2019, and she is represented by Anzenberger Agency in Vienna.
Her series Moving Mountains: Portraits of Contemporary Womanhood brings together women from different countries and circumstances. It received an honourable mention in the 2026 Ritratti femminili a confronto open call and is exhibited at Trieste Photo Days.
