Trieste Photo Days 2026: Mark Power and Christopher Morris Among the Headline Guests!

A preview of an edition not to be missed

Photography returns to centre stage in Trieste. From 22 to 25 October 2026, the 13th edition of Trieste Photo Days will once again transform the city into a crossroads of art and visual creativity, with exhibitions, workshops, talks, photowalks and encounters with some of the major figures of international photography. The full programme is on its way: here are the first previews of what promises to be a rich and inspiring edition.

  SPECIAL GUESTS  

This year, Trieste Photo Days will host names of absolute international prestige:

Mark Power, Magnum photographer and one of the defining figures of contemporary British photography, works with the deliberate slowness imposed by the large-format camera, exploring the unsettled territory between documentary, autobiography and imagination. Among his long-term projects, Good Morning, America: a visual exploration of the cultural and physical landscape of the United States. A professor at the University of Brighton for 25 years, he has published 16 photobooks and his work is held in major public and private collections worldwide. Read more →

Christopher Morris, founding member of VII Photo Agency and one of the most celebrated photojournalists of the past four decades. From 1990 to 2020 he worked for TIME Magazine, covering international conflicts and following the presidencies of George W. Bush and Barack Obama as part of the White House press pool. Morris then embarked on a collaboration with Italian magazine AMICA, bringing his distinctive journalistic approach to the world of fashion between Milan and Paris. His awards include the Robert Capa Gold Medal, the Infinity Award for Photojournalism from the International Center of Photography, and multiple World Press Photo prizes. Read more →

Mihaela Noroc, a photographer who has spent over a decade travelling the world portraying the beauty and diversity of women from every culture and country, brings to Trieste The Atlas of Beauty, a long-term project challenging reductive media representations of beauty, featured by CNN, BBC, TIME and The Guardian.

Stefano Mirabella, documentary photographer and instructor at Officine Fotografiche and the Leica Akademie, has long pursued socially engaged reportage across Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, India, Syria and the occupied Palestinian territories. Since 2012 he has dedicated himself to street photography, observing reality through a personal lens, and in 2014 was among the winners of the Leica Talent award.

Also among the edition’s protagonists: Ian Willms, a Canadian photographer selected by Matt Black through the Online Projects Selection 2025, brings to Trieste The Hound, a collective portrait of marginal America observed along the routes travelled by Greyhound. Rudy Gadeyne, a Belgian photographer, will lead a photowalk through the streets of Trieste, sharing his visual approach with a small group of participants.

  FREE EXHIBITIONS OPEN TO EVERYONE  

This 13th edition offers a particularly rich programme, spread across some of Trieste’s most evocative venues.

Magazzino 26, in Porto Vecchio, will host the edition’s flagship exhibitions. Mark Power presents a selection from his long-term project Good Morning, America. Power also curates the Mark Power Special Prize – Beyond the Surface, selecting up to 3 projects from the Projects and Portfolio category of URBAN Photo Awards to be shown in dialogue with his own work.

Christopher Morris is the special guest of Mythography VI: Jupiter and Bacchus, a photography project inspired by Greco-Roman mythology. Accompanying the works on show in a multisensory journey, the original polyphonic composition Rifrazioni sonore. Il prisma della memoria (Sound Refractions. The Prism of Memory) by Matteo Zambon, winner of Fotografia in Sinfonia, a project born from the collaboration between Exhibit Around, dotART and the Giuseppe Tartini Conservatory of Trieste.

Also at Magazzino 26, La Forma del Calore (The Shape of Heat) traces the impact of climate change in Friuli Venezia Giulia through an art-science project developed with the scientific support of DEAMS (University of Trieste), transforming ARPA FVG datasets into immediate visual narratives alongside the photographs of Filippo Ferraro‘s HEATALY project.

At Sala Veruda, TRAVEL explores journeys as experience, encounter and transformation, with the special participation of Stefano Mirabella. At ITIS, The Atlas of Beauty arrives in Trieste: Mihaela Noroc‘s celebrated project, now in its eleventh year of documenting women from every culture, country and background.

At Museo Sartorio, Female Portraits in Dialogue brings the heritage of the Fototeca dei Civici Musei di Trieste into dialogue with contemporary international photography, tracing the transformation of the female portrait across the centuries. The project is realised with the support of the Regional Council of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Collectible Shots – A Journey Beyond the Visible, in collaboration with Galleria Passage Arte Contemporanea, brings together photography and materiality, weaving together the winning work from the open call, the project A/R Acqua e Ruggine by Giulia Natalia Comito (winner of the 2025 Portfolio Review) and the sculptures of Alessandra Spigai.

At Sala Xenia, Daniel Ramos, winner of the Projects and Portfolios section of URBAN Photo Awards 2025, constructs visual stories about everyday life in Mexico.

Creativity meets business. At Angolo di Rocco, Nicolas Brunetti, winner of the Patricia D. Richards Legacy Award 2025, presents the project developed as part of Cultura in Cantiere (Culture Under Construction), a multidisciplinary artistic residency by Exhibit Around APS in collaboration with Edilimpianti Trieste. At Biblioteca Crise, Alice Zorzin presents the outcome of Scatti in Rete (Connected Shots), an artistic residency by dotART in collaboration with Install.Pro and Elettromatica.

  TRIESTE PHOTO FRINGE AND THE BEST OF URBAN PHOTO AWARDS  

Linking the festival’s venues through the streets of the city, the Trieste Photo Fringe brings the best of international urban photography to a curated circuit of local bars, cafés and restaurants, and to the Poste Centrali. Beyond the city, Trieste Photo Days anticipates the October events with URBAN exhibitions at Trieste Airport.

  EVENTS AND AWARD CEREMONIES  

The Trieste Photo Days 2026 programme brings three days of encounters, talks and professional growth opportunities, from 23 to 25 October, with some events and opening nights already on Thursday the 22nd.

Scheduled highlights include: the two-day workshop with Christopher Morris (Thursday and Friday), portfolio reviews with Christopher Morris and Stefano Mirabella (Friday and Saturday), a masterclass by Stefano Mirabella on Saturday, and guided tours of the exhibitions. On Sunday, Mark Power and Christopher Morris will be the protagonists of the festival’s closing talks.

Saturday at the festival is traditionally dedicated to the URBAN Photo Awards ceremony, attended by jurors Mark Power and Christopher Morris. Alongside the main URBAN photography categories (Single Images, Projects and Portfolios, Book Award, Press Award, Arena), the winners of the TPD Best Author 2026 Edilimpianti Innovation Partner, the Patricia D. Richards Award, the Mark Power Special Prize – Beyond the Surface, and the Premio Speciale per la Sensibilità Artistica will also be announced.

The festival also celebrates the artistic heritage of Friuli Venezia Giulia, thanks to the invaluable collaboration with artist, painter and sculptor Giorgio Celiberti, honoured at the Venice Biennale. Every photographer awarded at the festival will receive a unique artwork by Celiberti: a genuine symbol of the art and culture of the territory.
