As part of the seventh Trieste Photo Days – International Festival of Urban Photography (Trieste 29.10-01.11.2021), the exhibition entitled Graziano Perotti will be held at the Civic Museum of Oriental Art. Sri Lanka Stories, which collects the shots of Graziano Perotti selected by the curator of the museum dr. Michela Messina and the Head of the Photo Library of the Civic Museums of History and Art, dr. Claudia Colecchia within a shortlist proposed by the dotART Association; the exhibition will be set up by the dotART association with the collaboration of the Conservator of the museum and the Photo Library of the Civic Museums of History and Art.
Graziano Perotti’s exhibition offers the public for the first time the unpublished photographs of two recently made targeted reportages. Divided into two sections, entitled “Tea in the East” and “Religious festivals”, the exhibition narrates a cross-section of the country in two of its truest realities. The first of these concerns “The Tea Train”, a convoy that transports workers and their families to the area of the tea plantations in the high mountains. The shots offer at the same time enchanting panoramas and glimpses on the social reality of a production that is among the most important sources of income in Sri Lanka and which employs over a million people, most of whom are women. The second focuses on religion, which is deeply felt in a nation where all religions coexist peacefully, and there are also scenes from the feast of the tooth of the Buddha, the most important and popular on the island.
Perotti is an attentive observer of the oriental world and his shots, proposed in the evocative setting of the Civic Museum of Oriental Art, provide unprecedented points of observation and reading on a country – Sri Lanka – scarcely witnessed in the Museum’s collections. In connection with the exhibition, a selection of fine porcelain tea sets from the Museum’s collections, never previously exhibited to the public, will be proposed, curated by Michela Messina, and a nucleus of oriental historical photographs related to tea, from the rich. funds of the Photo Library of the Civic Museums of History and Art, edited by Claudia Colecchia.
