Paolo Pellegrin è nato a Roma nel 1964. Prima di studiare fotografia all’Istituto Italiano di Fotografia, ha studiato architettura all’Università la Sapienza. Tra il 1991 e il 2001 Pellegrin è stato rappresentato dall’Agence VU di Parigi.
Nel 2001 è diventato un candidato per l’agenzia Magnum Photos, di cui diventa membro a pieno titolo nel 2005. È stato fotografo a contratto per Newsweek per dieci anni.
Pellegrin ha vinto numerosi premi, inclusi undici premi World Press Photo e numerosi premi POY, una Leica Medal of Excellence, un Olivier Rebbot Award, l’Hansel-Meith Preis, il Dr. Erich Salomon Award e la Robert Capa Gold Medal Award. Nel 2006 gli è stato assegnato il W. Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography.
In trent’anni di lavoro si è concentrato sui temi legati alla condizione umana, dalle guerre agli effetti del cambiamento climatico globale, cercando di essere un testimone per i nostri tempi.
Vive a Londra.
