On the occasion of the 8th edition of Trieste Photo Days – International Festival of Urban Photography, and thanks to the collaboration and hospitality of ERPAC FVG, we are honoured to offer to photographers, both professionals and amateurs, three exceptional MasterClasses, in presence, with some of the greatest exponents of photography.
Saturday 30 October 2021, from 2 to 5 pm at the Magazzino delle Idee appointment with the MasterClass Photography and the curatorial practice, by Andréa Holzherr, director of international exhibitions and curator for Magnum Photos, Paris, and responsible for promoting the Magnum Archive. An unmissable opportunity to steal the secrets and teachings of a great professional in photography.
Curators have never been as present in contemporary art as they are today. Everyone now knows a few names of famous curators responsible for major exhibitions and biennials around the world. Originally it was the task of the curator to support the artist with the creation of an exhibition, today the curator himself sometimes takes on a creative roll. But does that also apply to photo exhibitions?
What makes a good photo exhibition? What exactly does a curator do? Can pictures still stand alone or do they need contextualization through the figure of the curator? What role does education play? Can one learn how to curate?
The masterclass will try to explain the curator’s role, the necessary competences, as well as a number of curatorial strategies, and it will strive to answer any questions that the participants may have.
