Inaugurated in Poreč (Croatia) the award-exhibition of URBAN Photo Awards 2023 at the Territory Museum of Poreč (Zavičajni Muzej Poreštine)

Elena Uljančić, director of the Museum and juror of the competition, has selected for this year’s exhibition the project: West Safari, by the Italian photographer Francesco Aglieri Rinella. This is the director’s motivation: “The choice of this portfolio is due to the quality of the idea and the presentation. The photographs express a right concept full of atmosphere but with a personal note in the photographic eye. From the photos emerges an atmosphere similar to that in the paintings of the artist Edward Hopper.”

In West Safari, Aglieri Rinella documents the human presence in the context of American decadence in the contemporary age. The author tells himself:
“My photography is a slow process of understanding lights and situations. The hidden reality of light shows and reflects what is hidden in our lives and can only be accepted with a great openness of mind. My photographs are a study of reality frozen in an unrepeatable instant that includes emotional reflections and mental expansions. Influenced by the “New Topographics” movement, my research is constantly aimed at documenting the “Man-altered landscape” that evolves over time, capturing the cultural and historical point of view of a simple but effective landscape.”

The exhibition is part of the Photo Days Tour 2023 calendar, the frame of events taking place outside the city during the Trieste Photo Days festival.
