Guided tour of Photographic Library of the Municipality of Trieste

Palazzo Gopcevich | Via Gioacchino Rossini, 4 - Trieste, Italy Friday, 27 October 2017 11:00 am to 12:00 pm

As part of Trieste Photo Days, the Municipality of Trieste offers the possibility of a guided tour at the Photographic Library of the Civic Museums of History and Art, located on the third floor of Palazzo Gopcevich.

The Photographic Library of the Municipality of Trieste preserves, catalogues, protects and makes available a patrimony of almost 3,000,000 frames.
The collection, among the most extensive photographic heritages of Friuli Venezia Giulia, gathers two complementary areas linked to the local cultural and social reality: the documentation activities of the Civic Museums and the various collections of photographers and agencies of the last century received through purchase, donation or storage area.
The photographic assets narrate the evolution of photography, not only from a technical point of view, but also expressive. The images are precious testimonies on the artistic, urban and landscape heritage, on the great historical events, on the public and private ceremonies, both famous and not, tracing the history of the city from 1840 to the present day.
What was the first camera in the Municipality?
Who was the first photographer?
Between daguerreotypes, ferrotypes, stereoscopic photographs, plates and films, albums, observing the precious images of Miramare in the album of Sebastianutti up to the funds of Giornalfoto, de Rota and Borsatti, a journey is proposed to promote awareness of the cultural value of photographic memory .
