Trieste Photo Days and CRAF (Spilimbergo Photography Research and Archiving Center): cultural excellences of Friuli Venezia Giulia region who have been working for years in the promotion of Photography.
Trieste Photo Days is the festival that since 2014 has brought great international photography to the Julian capital and throughout the Region. The CRAF represents the reference center for research, study, collection, census, archiving, conservation and digitization of the regional photographic heritage.
From today, these two cultural realities will collaborate on a series of shared photographic projects, in a path towards GO! 2025, the year that will see Nova Gorica / Gorizia European Capital of Culture. A very important event to which dotART (promoter of Trieste Photo Days) and CRAF also want to give their contribution.
A contribution in which, of course, Photography will be the protagonist. In fact, it will include photographic releases in the area as part of PixAround FVG, photographic exhibitions, production of books and events at the Trieste Photo Days and much more.
The go2025.triestephotodays.com site will also be launched shortly, which will collect a selection of contemporary and historical photos of the Gorizia area present in the CRAF archive.
A dialogue between past and present able to offer food for thought on the transformations of the territory.
The collaboration with CRAF includes all the projects of dotART Cultural Association and Exhibit Around APS (Trieste Photo Days – International Photography Festival, ExhibitAround.com, URBAN Photo Awards) and with Trieste PhotoLab. The activities are part of an integrated four-year project that will culminate in 2025 and provides for the progressive and active involvement of institutions and cultural realities of Friuli Venezia Giulia in order to promote exhibitions and photographic events capable of connecting Trieste, Spilimbergo and the European capital. of culture.
CRAF – Photography Research and Archiving Center
The Friulian Group for a New Photography was established in Spilimbergo on 1 December 1955.
Italo Zannier, Gianni and Giuliano Borghesan and Aldo Beltrame joined together with Fulvio Roiter, Toni Del Tin, Carlo Bevilacqua and later Nino Miglior, Luciano Ferri, Gianni Berengo Gardin and Giuseppe Bruno.
The pioneering experience of the Group determined the birth of CRAF in 1987 and promoted Spilimbergo, a small capital of Italian photography, a crossroads for artists and home to the Friuli Venezia Giulia Photography review, which annually attracts artists of international standing.
The CRAF Archive contains about 600,000 photographs between positives and negatives. There are numerous daguerreotypes, albumins, cartes de visite, positives on plate and nineteenth-century albums. The material is stored in two new generation air-conditioned warehouses.
The CRAF library, on the other hand, is made up of a corpus of 10,000 monographs and 50,000 issues of specialized magazines on photography, some of high historical value and extremely rare.
